Youth are being targeted through mainstream and social media at an alarming rate. Alcohol, sex, drugs and violence aren’t merely tolerated, they’re promoted and paid for in our society and this is the mindset that some youth are molded to. The Black Girls Club was created in direct response to an immediate need. The Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families defines the “At-Risk” as: “young people for whom the probability of successful transitioning to adulthood and achieving economic self-sufficiency is low”. There are a continuously growing number of students who are “at-risk” enrolled in the Alachua County school district and young black girls make up about 45%.
